Childhood was not so easy

1. Al Pacino was born to an Italian American parents Salvatore Pacino and Rose Gerardi in East Harlem, New York City in 1940.

2. His father was from San Fratello, Sicily.

3. His grandparents had connections from Corleone, Sicily, Italy.

4. In hid childhood he was named “Sonny” to his friends.

5. He was very much fond of football and often called “The Actor” among friends.

6. At the age of 17, he was dropped out of high school and auditioned for the High School of Performing Arts and got admission there.

1. His first television debut was ABC’s NYPD series called “Deadly Circle of Violence”.

1. Al Pacino’s debut film was an Independent film Me, Natalie in 1969.

2. It was Pacino’s drug addict role in the film “The Panic in Needle Park” which brought him to the notice of director Francis Ford Coppola.

3. Coppola cast him in The God Father movie instead of great actors like Robert de Niro, Jack Nicholson. Which made many executives not feel good. Al though Francis Ford Coppola was eager to cast Al Pacino then a newcomer to the industry.

4. He referred by the producers of The God Father as a “the midget Pacino”.

5. The God Father made Al Pacino a star and that film won three Academy Awards in 45 th Academy Wards and received seven nominations in 1973. In 1972 it was the highest-grossing film of the year.

6. In the first part of the God Father Al Pacino made only $35000 but during film second installation he charged $7 million. It was difficult to make him satisfied with the script also, Coppola worked day and night to make some changes in the script. At last Al Pacino got $5 million-plus 10 percent net gross.

7. His notable acting includes an NYPD officer who exposed the corruption in police depart. This memorable performance was based on a real-life police officer Frank Serpico. For this performance, Al Pacino received a nomination for the 1974 Academy Award in Best Actor category.

Till now he regrets rejecting a cult film “The Usual Suspects”. This film won two Academy Awards in two categories in 68th Academy Awards.

10. He maintained a great friendship with his mentor and best friend Lee Strasberg.

In 1974 movie The Godfather Part2 Lee played a gangster role along with his student Al Pacino. This performance received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1975.

Pacino also tried his luck in direction. Till now he directed three films and a play – Chinese Coffee(a play in 2000), Looking for Richard(1996), Salome(2013), Wilde Salome(2011).

Al Pacino has a daughter Julie Marie born in 1989, with acting coach Jan Tarrant. He has twins a son and a daughter with actress Beverly D”Angelo. Son Anton James and Daughter Olivia Rose were born on January 25th, 2001.
